1. The biggest surprise for me was that social entrepreneurship does not care about making money. Social entrepreneurs' mindset is to help better society. I thought that entrepreneurs mindset is to use their creativity to be able to put out the best product possible and in return make money.
2. The triple bottom line was a bit confusing for me. I did not fully understand how it is an accounting framework, yet it has nothing to do with traditional accounting methods.
3. Two question:
Can a Benefit corporation also be a B corporation? The book stated how these corporations were basically the same thing, yet it pointed out some very big differences. This is why I want to know if a corporation can actually be both a benefit and a B corporation.
Is there an advantage for a company to become international at inception? It seems to me that if a company starts out in a certain country's market and then grows and becomes international, it will have a greater advantage over a company that becomes international at inception. Also, I believe there is a greater risk of failure for companies that become international from the beginning.
4. I agree with what the author wrote about. I would like there to be more detail on certain things, because I was a little bit confused with some of the things I read.

Customer Interview No. 1
1. There are many people in Gainesville that use scooters as a form of transportations. Many students cannot afford to purchase a scooter, because of many other expenses that they have along with the expense of attending the University of Florida. There is all ready a rental service for cars on campus in case students need a form of transportation. I believe there is an opportunity for a scooter rental service. This would be cheaper than a car, and it would allow students to have the same mobility as a car. This form of transportation would help students be able to move around the Gainesville area without having to spend a great deal of money on transportation or on gasoline, since scooters have very good mpg.
2. I believe that students have the unmet need for using scooters around the Gainesville area. If students were able to rent scooters, they would be able to move around campus without having to wait for the bus system, or uber to get to where they are. This would help students be on time, and be able to plan their schedules without the need to have to wait on a form of transportation to get to where they are going. Also, this is a very inexpensive form of transportation, since filling up a scooter is very cheap, and scooters usually do not break down.
3. My list of questions:
Do you ever find yourself in need of transportation?
Would you use a scooter rental service? (If respondent says no)Why not?
Would you use this service even if you had to sign a liability waiver forcing you to wear a helmet?
4. Interviews:
5. Overall, I learned that this would be a good idea based on the student population. I still believe that students would use this service. Students want to be able to move around freely, and this inexpensive service would allow them to do so. Also, I learned that students do care about their health, and that wearing a helmet would not be a deal breaker. I thought that people would not want to wear helmets, since most people that use scooters on campus do not use them.
6. Interviewing others can be awkward and intimidating. It all depends on how you approach the interview beforehand. Also, if people do not answer your questions in the way you expected them to, then you can feel negative about it. This could affect future interviews. It is good to be as detailed as possible in your questions, but you also need to be to the point. Even though the interviews were a bit uncomfortable at first, they got easier as I interviewed more people.

Top 5 World Problems
Top 5 Problems:
1. Terrorism
2. World Hunger
3. Climate Change
4. Poverty
5. Disease
I believe that terrorism is the top problem. This is a problem that the world has been fighting against for many years, without a clear solution. We have been able to fight back and to even dismantle some terrorist groups, but more groups end up forming and we end up in the same cycle. I believe this is the top problem, because there is no clear solution. Also, this is a problem that not only hurts millions of innocent people a year, but it also scares people from living a normal life. The other problems on this list are very important, but they provide solutions that are easier to implement. Also, those solutions can be implemented in a timely manner, or at least within a certain time line. Since terrorism is based on the actions of others, it is very difficult to be able to provide a solution on how to stop it, or to set up a time line of when this problem might be solved.

Top 5 Solutions:
1. World hunger solution of having a $1 tax and using the tax to provide food for people suffering from hunger and malnutrition.
2. Climate change/pollution solution of having stricter laws and restricting the amount of pollution allowed by people and companies.
3. Poverty solution of providing people in poverty the opportunity to get an education in a trade school and to be able to obtain a job upon graduation.
4. Disease solution of educating countries and allocating more money towards research and development to fight against diseases.
5. Terrorism solution of having a higher perimeter of security and using the technology at hand to better fight against terrorists.
I believe that my top solution is the most implementable, because it is not very hard to apply a $1 tax to groceries. Also, most people would not even notice this. There are many charitable organizations that help people suffering from world hunger, so I believe that providing more food for these people would also not be extremely hard to accomplish as long as there is enough capital available. It is a lot harder to pass laws since people have to vote on these laws, and research and development to fight against diseases can take years to develop. Also, fighting terrorism has no clear solution, since it has been an ongoing problem that we have not been able to solve.

Week 3 Reading Reflection
1. The biggest surprise in the reading were the Corporate Innovator's Commandments. These commandments make it seem like corporate innovators have no one job. They should not focus just on their job title, because in reality their job is to be the innovators. In order to do this, they must be able to be creative and think outside the box. I understand and agree with the commandments, but I did not expect to read anything like them in this textbook.
2. One part of the reading that was confusing to me was table 3.2 about sources and solutions to obstacles in corporate innovation. Some of the traditional management practices seem to me like very good ideas, but the book shows the adverse effects that can come from these practices. I was confused about how some of these practices could actually hurt innovation, even after reading this section.
3. If I could ask anything to the author, I would ask him to explain in more detail how large companies are using the techniques he explained in the book to become great innovators and stay in the forefront of their markets. Also, I would ask the author how corporate leaders can keep the structure of their companies while still being able to allow people to be creative and work outside of their primary job focus.
4. I agree with most of what the author wrote, but I do not think that companies are being as innovative as this book makes it seem. I believe that large companies are shifting their thought process to begin to be more innovative, and opened minded with their employees' ideas, but I do not think that they have made an extreme change. Overall, I think companies are still very structured around a normal routine, and I do not think that employees are given the freedom to think outside the box, and to work on projects outside of what they are normally working on.

Story: Around 9:45 in the morning firefighters were alerted by neighbors about a house being on fire. Alachua, LaCrosse, Melrose, and High Springs fire teams worked together to extinguish the flames. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but the possibility of foul play is very unlikely. Luckily no one was in the double-wide trailer when it burned down. Neighbors commented on knowing the owners of the home, who did not want to comment on the fire, and on how nice of a family they were.
Problem: The problem in this story is that this family is currently without a home, because of a fire. Their home was destroyed while they were away, and now they must deal with the problem of having to find a new home and deal with insurance companies.
Who has problem: The Monteocha family now has this new problem. They are the people that lived in this trailer, and now they have the problem of not having a home.

NASCAR has to find a way to accommodate fans that had all ready purchased secure autograph session tickets. Also, NASCAR will now have a financial problem with have to change around the dates of the different events, along with helping out fans.

Very Short Interview No. 1
The entrepreneur I chose to interview is Charles Allen. He is a founding partner of Embers Wood Grill Restaurant in Gainesville, Florida. He is an entrepreneur because he was able to begin his own business from the ground up, and his restaurant has been very successful since it began. In my interview, I asked Mr. Allen three questions about entrepreneurship, and about what I can expect from this course.
Question 1: What does it mean to be an entrepreneur?
Response: To be an entrepreneur means to be disciplined. There is no one to tell you what to do or how to do it. You are in charge of your day, and you must be able to have good time management skills. Many people fail because they do not take advantage of their time. Some people wake up when they are 50-60 years old and say what have I accomplished? It also means that you have control over your personal life. You decided when you wake up and when you go to sleep depending on when you finish what you need to accomplish. You go to sleep when the goal is accomplished, or you don't go to bed.
Question 2: What do you wish you had been taught in school before setting out on your own path as an entrepreneur?
Response: I would of liked to have been taught how to better implement what I learned into the real world scenarios. Academia teaches you the rules and regulations. It teaches to know and understand how the world works, but it takes time to really become an expert. It takes between 15-20 years to become an expert. When you become an expert is when you can make big things happen.
Question 3: What should my expectations be in this course?
Response: School teaches you how the chess pieces move, in the game of life. You should expect to learn the basic rules of the game, and path that will lead you to become successful. It will take years of experience before understanding exactly how the world works.
Reflection: During the interview I was surprised with the responses that Mr. Allen gave me. It now seems to me that being an entrepreneur requires a large amount of hands on experience. This course is paving the way for me to be able to use the knowledge I acquire from the course to be a successful entrepreneur. I also did not expect him to say that it takes about 15-20 years to really become an expert in entrepreneurship, or any other thing I decide to do. Overall, Mr. Allen was very insightful, and he has changed my mindset in terms of what to expect from this course and how to use the knowledge I acquire with my future goals.

World's Biggest Problems
This is a list of the world's biggest problems, and a brief solution to each one.
1. Terrorism: There have been a wide range of terrorist attacks just in the past year. Isis and other terrorist groups have target many large cities around the world. They are attacking civilians, and they do not care who they hurt. There have also been many cyber attacks on people's personal information, and on private government information. There is no easy solution for this, but to begin with setting up a higher perimeter for security. Also, using any and all of the technology at hand to catch these attackers before they can attack. A good way to do this would be to allocate more money and research towards national security.
2. Climate Change: During the past couple of years climate change has shown up on the map. This includes record high and record low temperatures. Also, having the cold season begin a month or two after it normally begins. Deforestation also contributes to this problem, and to raising the planets overall temperature. A solution to this problem would be to have stricter environmental standards and laws. Also, having stricter penalties for breaking these laws.
3. Unemployment: Since the recession period began in the US, there has be a growing percentage of unemployment. It has gone down a bit since the recession began, but it is still a problem we face today. There are many qualified people that do not have jobs, and are unable to provide for their families. A solution to this problem would be to help stimulate the economy. If banks are able to lend money to new businesses or small businesses, then these businesses have a higher chance of survival, and in turn would help create more jobs.
4. World Hunger: Many people, specially in Africa, face world hunger. A large number of the world population dies every year because of world hunger, and the insufficient allocation of food. In order to solve this problem, we must help each other. A solution for this problem could be to add an additional tax of about $1 to every purchase made at a supermarket. This money would be used to send food to the places with the highest percentage of malnutrition and people dying from hunger.
5. Disease: Throughout the past couple of years there have been large outbreaks of diseases around the world. For example, the Ebola outbreak in Africa caused many problems throughout the world. A solution to this would help these countries by educating them on proper ways to stay healthy and clean.
6. Pollution: Pollution has been a big problem that is tied in with the climate change. Through pollution we have caused this climate change to occur. In order to help fight against this, stricter sanctions on environmental standards along with the solution to fighting disease should be used. Educating people on recycling as well as how to maintain a clean and healthy environment could help fight pollution. Also, implementing laws to pollute less. For example, only being able to drive your car on certain days depending on your license plate number, or being able to ride the bus for free.
7. Income Inequality: In the world we live in the majority of the wealth is shared by a small percentage of the population. This means that the 1% of the world is extremely wealthy, while the other 99% tends to be very poor or having just enough to get by. One solution to this problem would be to have more evenly shared resources. For example, allowing those less wealthy people to have the same opportunities as wealthier people.
8. Economic Growth: This problem is most easily seen in European countries. Currently many European countries are struggling with their economies, and this is affecting the world as a whole. One solution to this problem would be for these countries to stop using the Euro as their currency, and begin having currencies for their specific countries. This could help some of the countries whose economies are brought down because of other countries with failing economies that use the same currency.
9. Safe Water: Many places around the world do not contain safe water for human consumption. This problem also brings about health-related issues. A solution to this problem would be for governments to step in and implement stricter water safety laws, and allocate more money towards cleaning the countries water supply.
10. Poverty: A large amount of the world's population lives in poverty. These people live on less than $3 a day. The majority of these people live around the same areas or countries. A solution to this problem would be to aid these countries in providing better education to these regions. Also, developing a program in which these people could attend a trade school, and obtain a job after they graduate from such schools.

My Entrepreneurship Story
When I was in 4th grade, my elementary school introduced a music program into our curriculum. It involved 4th and 3rd graders, and I eagerly joined. I have always enjoy music, and being able to play an instrument well has always been a goal of mine. I decided to take this opportunity and to accomplish that goal. Since this was the 1st year my school had done this, pretty much everyone that joined was a beginner. Some of the different instruments that we were allowed to choose from include the violin, cello, bass, flute, and viola. I decided to pick the violin, since I had always enjoyed listening to it being played. At first, no one was very good, and some of the concerts we performed at sounded rather harsh. As 5th grade came around, I stayed in this program, but I decided to play the viola since I felt very comfortable with the violin. It was not a major change, and I was able to pick it up rather quickly. Overall, this experience brought with it many challenges, but in the end it was extremely rewarding. I struggled a lot at the beginning, and at times I even felt like quitting. I motivated myself by listening to some well known violinists, and thinking to myself that someday I would be able to play the viola and the violin well. At the end, I was very happy with the end result. I was able to play the violin and the viola very well, and I even learned how to read music.

I joined ENT 3003 because, I have always been intrigued with the world of entrepreneurship. I have had the dream of running my own company since I was in high school. My dad has his own consulting company, and I think it would be great to be able to accomplish this goal. I also enjoy having the freedom to make my own decisions, and I think that is part of what being an entrepreneur is about. Overall, I want to get a better understanding of what it means to be an entrepreneur, and which of my skills could help me become a great entrepreneur. Also, I would like to understand more of what skills I need to improve on to become a great entrepreneur.
