My Entrepreneurship Story

When I was in 4th grade, my elementary school introduced a music program into our curriculum. It involved 4th and 3rd graders, and I eagerly joined. I have always enjoy music, and being able to play an instrument well has always been a goal of mine. I decided to take this opportunity and to accomplish that goal. Since this was the 1st year my school had done this, pretty much everyone that joined was a beginner. Some of the different instruments that we were allowed to choose from include the violin, cello, bass, flute, and viola. I decided to pick the violin, since I had always enjoyed listening to it being played. At first, no one was very good, and some of the concerts we performed at sounded rather harsh. As 5th grade came around, I stayed in this program, but I decided to play the viola since I felt very comfortable with the violin. It was not a major change, and I was able to pick it up rather quickly. Overall, this experience brought with it many challenges, but in the end it was extremely rewarding. I struggled a lot at the beginning, and at times I even felt like quitting. I motivated myself by listening to some well known violinists, and thinking to myself that someday I would be able to play the viola and the violin well. At the end, I was very happy with the end result. I was able to play the violin and the viola very well, and I even learned how to read music.

I joined ENT 3003 because, I have always been intrigued with the world of entrepreneurship. I have had the dream of running my own company since I was in high school. My dad has his own consulting company, and I think it would be great to be able to accomplish this goal. I also enjoy having the freedom to make my own decisions, and I think that is part of what being an entrepreneur is about. Overall, I want to get a better understanding of what it means to be an entrepreneur, and which of my skills could help me become a great entrepreneur. Also, I would like to understand more of what skills I need to improve on to become a great entrepreneur.

  1. I found your story very interesting, just was a bit confused on how it related to entrepreneurship. Your reason for taking the class, however, was very interesting and thought-provoking. It is great to try to follow in your father's successful footsteps. Also, I am taking the class for many reasons similar to yours!

  2. Hi Luis,
I enjoyed reading your experience with string instruments. Like you, I love the violin and cello as well. My school had a similar program when I was in third grade. I joined and played the violin for 2 years, and I remember how out of sync the concerts were with 30 little kids playing the same song they recently had learned! Music has always been a huge part of my life. Eventually, I stopped playing the violin and began taking piano lessons. I still play the piano and read music. Its a wonderful accomplishment and its a skill that you can put to use for the rest of your life.
